Yellow lines vanish alongside the road
shortly followed by the white.
Nothing lies ahead on this empty path
but the storm that has overtaken my life.

A month gone since I last saw
your tender face and gentle green eyes
and yet somehow I still end up
on the same road, speeding away
from all these feelings you had already let go.
All I want is to lose sight of the hurt
but the world’s flying by ninety miles in time
and this unwinding road just makes me think of you.

From the clouds lightning strobes
and illuminates the sky.
Rain drops clank against the metal
of my car and drips onto the outside
of my window, searching for a way
in but to no avail.
So why are my cheeks so wet?
