An Ode to My Voice
An Ode to My Voice:
By Sarah Groh
Softly
Quietly
I speak
Loudly
Exuberantly
I speak
Playfully
Happily
I speak
Sadly
Mournfully
I speak
My voice
My voice
It is uniquely mine,
beautifully and wonderfully mine.
It cannot be changed or duplicated,
and only I shall speak with it.
Mine.
Beautifully, wonderfully mine.
My voice shall only grace the earth in my lifetime,
conveying my ideas and my thoughts and my emotions.
Beautifully, wonderfully mine.
I voice my fears and my hopes
My thoughts made public by the intricate mechanics
of coordinating my mouth to form vowles
and consonants,
my vocal cords vibrating,
to communicate,
so that all can understand.
My voice that can speak more than one language
My voice that can laugh
and my voice that can cry.
Beautifully, wonderfully, mine.
