Not There

You told me that you'd be there
Because you said you would
You said that you would come for me
At the first chance you could

Said you couldn't wait to see me
A promise of good times
Was I too blind to stop and read
The note between the lines?

I got there and I waited
The hours fled their way
When it was fin'lly time to leave
I had no heart to stay

For you I chose I would not wait
I wanted to at first
You did not care so nor would I
I felt my heart would burst

I ran and ran, it was my best
Without you I did fine
Through pouring sweat you left my blood
I crossed the finish line

You told me that you'd be there
You said for me you'd fly
You promised you would run with me
But it was all a lie
