Not a Change but an Ending

Not a change but an ending.
Grace Crnojevich
When I get dressed in the morning,
I have to choose wisely. I cannot wear
what I feel best in because what I might
wear could lead to future consequences.
I might be asking for it.
But what does asking for it look like exactly?
Trick question. It doesn't matter because
as long as rape culture exists, women will
always be at fault for having their bodies
taken from them.
“But boys will be boys!” laughs the football
coach, lawyer, and father of the boy who
thought it would be hilarious to take
the innocence of the girl that apparently
was already easy.
Rape culture won't end until instead
of teaching girls not to dress a certain way,
we teach boys that no means no! It won't
end until I don't have to hold my key between
my fingers, preparing myself for a possible assault.
I want to change the way people view rape.
I don't want them to just say, “oh how sad.” No.
I want to change the way we educate our daughters
and sisters, encouraging them that it is never
their fault.
I want to change society's view on women.
Stop sexualizing our anatomy. Start teaching
boys not to rape, instead of teaching
girls how not to get raped. I don't want to just
change rape culture. I want to abolish it.
