No More Denial

I am a poet

There, I finally said it

No more denial

I am the girl who

Sees trash along the roadside

And thinks, “A poem!”

The girl whose words fly

Like Hawkeye’s arrows from her

Pen unto the page –

Particularly

Ineffective against the

World’s chaotic mess

But maybe not so

Outdated as everyone

Seems to think.

One more problem pinned

Down, out of my path and I

Can go on my way,

Knowing I have made

The world a small bit better

And more beautiful.

I am a poet.

Making beauty from the pain

And garbage of this

Thing that we call life.

Turning ashes to treasure

And making meaning.

I am a poet

Time to stop denying it

And put pen to page.
