Night in Shakespeare's Verona
Location
Oh fantasy-land of shining stars
of romance, lovers whispering through shuttered eaves
The Night runs across the jailhouse bars
signalling the beginning of the good Sun's leave
Time of freedom, time of treachery
knights of Arthur wreaking havoc on the town,
only to put down swords, come morning,
and claim, 'twas all but mischievous rambling,
Nothing lost and Nothing found,
but for the hearts and minds of those
Who move as do the cows and bulls,
Who are not knights, but for the Night,
and yet give it all their Glory.
Originally "Poem for Night", this was written as part of a school assignment to write poems inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
