This is not the life that I asked for
When looking at me what do you see?
How, Why, When will this ever end

Why should my skin color determine my fate
Apparently my face is the cause of your hate
How, Why, When will this end

Days go by and things only get worse
Being put in this predicament was supposed to be a honor
But yet everyday is like like in a horror..movie
How, Why, When will this ever end

When do we get to the point where we fightback
Standup to those that constantly put us down
Will we ever get the chance to prove we are more than what appears on the outside
How, Why, When will this ever end

An opportunity to be united should be welcomed
Yet we are treated like terrorist
We should come together as one and act like a family
How, Why, When will this ever end

My skin color is not something I picked by choice
My education was an opportunity bestowed upon me
Why is it because my skin color is darker I'm inadequate to learn with those that don't look like me
My guess is as good as yours
I'm in a war that never seem to end!

This poem was inspired by The little Rock Nine students and how they were put in a situation where they had to defend themselves to their peers and others who felt as though they were inadequate to learn with white students.
