My Mother and I

My mother and I,

We always had a strong relationship.

My earliest memories are with her,

every piano recital,

every family trip,

every bedtime story book,

every friday night movie,

she was there.

Every single night she never let me sleep without a reminder that she loved me.

And that’s all you really need, someone to love you

someone who cares

someone who’s there for you.

I know how hard she works,

Day and night, she tries.

She gave up everything for our family,

She gave up everything for me.

I know where we come from,

A country of war,

A country of bombs,

A country of death,

No matter how much my mother tried to hide it from me,

It was the truth.

When that last bomb went off,

I didn't think it was big deal

But I knew it when we started running,

We were refugees.

That’s why I didn't mind when things started changing,

it was a difficult time,

and difficult times require difficult solutions, right?

But I never thought the difficult solution would be this.

That war took everything we had,

I lost my toys,

I lost my friends,

I lost my home,

But I never thought I’d lose you.

I never thought I’d lose my mother.

Because sometimes,

I turn around and I think you're still there.

Sometimes I look up to god and I say please bring me back my mama,

Please tell me where she is.

Because now I have nothing,

I have absolutely nothing.

Where are you mama?

It's been a while,

We miss you.

Did I do something wrong?

I’m sorry.

Please, come home.
