My Mask

When you look at me
You See Strength,
You See Determination,
You See Confidence.

It is a perception I have
Carefully crafted,
So you cannot see behind
The mask I where.

This mask isn’t worn out of deception.
It is worn so I might be brave,
To face my insecurities,
To Strive to become better.

If you look behind it,
I’m afraid of what you’ll see.
You probably wouldn’t recognize me,
And I’m afraid of that.

The mask isn’t a trick,
It’s just something I wear.
It’s a part of me,
and the part I want you to see.
