My heart

I told you that I would always love you
Making a vulnerable promise
as the words crept from my lips
Without the permission of my own mind
I spoke too soon..
Maybe too quickly to forget that
Always meant staying for you
Even when you didn't wait for me;
I dislodged my heart from my own chest
Promising that it would always be yours
And I always spoke too soon
I placed my pulsing organ in the palm of your hands
Forgetting
That I was the one who needed it most
Forgetting that my heart
Belonged to me
