A Mother's Love

Nine months together and she still didn’t know,

How quickly her love could truly grow.

Until the day I was born, when it became clear

That her children were all she would ever hold dear.

Her purpose had changed, new motivation exists

Whatever we wanted she couldn’t resist.

From sleepless nights to tired lullabies,

To wiping our tears whenever we cried.

She gave us everything we needed and more,

We were her world, all that she adored.

Gentle kisses and warm hugs, there’s nothing above,

What a mother would do for the children she loves.

She was my safe haven, my heaven on earth,

My constant protection, my angel from birth.

The center of my world as I centered in hers,

I asked for the stars and she gave the universe.

My god given best friend, a queen in my eyes,

Who even in anger I couldn’t despise.

She raised me to know what a woman should do,

How to love myself and always be true.

Confident in the fact that her love would never expire,

My mistakes I could share without need for denial.

Fixing broken hearts and lending a hand,

A mother will always be her child’s first friend.

Forever entwined, she would never give up

On her child no matter if times got tough.

Loyal and loving, it's eternally true,

That her one true love would always be you.

No one could compare where they do not comply,

A child is perfect in their mother’s eyes.

Never will they live without,

Their mother’s support, there will never be doubt.

There may be struggles, but they will not know,

Because their mother’s devoted to helping them grow.

Determined, persistent and eager to see,

The adult that their child will grow up to be.

Through the years of sacrifice and lack of sleep,

A mother’s love will always run deep.
