Mother, When I Return to You

Location

Mother hold me in warm embrace,
Gently cradle my delicate skin,
Caressed by your loving winds.
Touch my lips with petals,
Soft flowers of maternity love.

Never let me stray the path,
You so gracelessly set before me.
Let me not destroy your body,
You have lovingly provided me.

Should I dampen your skies,
And turn them gray.
Should I steal from your blues,
Your greens, your rainbows of life,
May you set me down,
As only a Mother can.

Mother, no love knows mine to you.
No King above, below, or near,
Can inspire in me an awe
Or a fear, a hope,
In the miracles that are you.

Forgive me of all past mistakes,
Made against your skin.
For I shall not forgive myself.

Mother hold me in warm embrace,
The day I return to you.

One word came to mind after reading this poem and that word is (drum roll please) :p ... Moving! This poem is so moving! From beginning to end, I was tuned in and introspective about your piece. Your word choice is eloquent and beautiful. How long have you been writing? I enjoy your descriptions and the way you make allusions to nature. My favorite stanza is...

Should I dampen your skies,
And turn them gray.
Should I steal from your blues,
Your greens, your rainbows of life,
May you set me down,
As only a Mother can.

I am intrigued by the title of your poem, which is great because developing a readers interest before the poem begins is an added bonus to a well written poem. Continue to create interesting titles for your poems! Also, if you haven't written a poem using the subject of nature yet you should definitley give it a try! You might want to use this prompt by power poetry to write it: http://www.powerpoetry.org/resources/poem-about-surroundings

Anyways, great work-- :)
