Running, my heart and step pounding as one
An echo sounding solely in my chest
I look ahead to see us light up our city swept surroundings
Shining like stars, we are grounded, but free as feathered teams
Running as if we could fly and flee
With the sheer velocity of small legs pumping
Small hearts beating along with a passion
Fashion no fiend or friend in this darkness
We are shrouded and unseen by the eyes that bear witness
Our shimmer only of notice to those who have felt this
And so a graceless race we’ve run to the finish
The grass a relief to feel under bare skin
My feet now plagued with the smallest of bites
From the manmade soil thick and gray to the world
A murky state of the body, a rushing haze in the mind
None slip away but I, and I
Feel the pull of the world, but cannot give it a name
I look to the stars in the sky and fall without aim
I dream with no means, no limits, and no seams
I wonder if they know how long I’ve waited
To feel this light
And to dream this whole
Everything is beautiful when one has a goal
