Missed The Mark

I missed the mark, I know I did
I tried, but failed, then tried again
And as I tried, this thought came through
This common thread: we fail as men

For one to try is not enough;
As best intentions won't suffice,
If trying counts, I'll fail, that's tough!
Prey victim of my own device

To just give up, I cannot do
I'll try again, but not feel blue
Through failure I will push on through
Forget the past; I'll try anew

The sweet success I soon will claim
Will come despite my peer's disdain
Through many failures try again
Where fear was found, now vict'ry reins
