The Mind vs. The Heart

What is a hug?

Just two pairs arms wrapped up like a Christmas bow or barbed wire

Thick green vines, constricting one another, unable to breath

That’s what my mind says

How about a kiss?

A soft collision of faces

And interaction to show emotion

Kindness, joy, adoration, Love

That’s what I studied

And a smile

It’s simple, I’ve read it in all the books

A simple curve of the lips

Maybe with a dimple or two

It shows happiness and care

The black and white laws of a science mind

Become a prison at the bottom of the ocean

Sinking, deeper and deeper until the light cannot reach

The colors of my soul seeping out from the cracks, floating back up to the surface with its friends

Leaving me an emotional husk

As by the grace of god

An angel descends upon me,

Parting the sea of doubt

Her heavenly hand unlocking my cage,

Sending these warm colors back into my heart

I can tell you what a hug means

It means that you care,

It means that you will always be there for me

And that I’ll always be there for you

That your soft beating heart can always comfort me,

Finding solace as it waltzes with mine

I can tell you what a kiss means

It’s a silent “I love you”

It’s a soundless “Have a good day”

It’s an unspoken contract that we’ll be together

Signed from the heart

I’ll tell you what your smile means to me

It lights a fire in my soul

It melts the ice surrounding my heart

It sends an angel deep within the void to pull me out

It does so many amazing things that are way beyond my comprehension

But the weirdest part is

That scientifically

It is just a curve of the lips

But it means so much more
