Memory Loss

I see him forget me

And all his loved ones

I see him forget

Yesterday, last week, last year

I feel the pain

When he can't remember my name

To know that

His memories are disappearing

He forgets our summers together

Spent inder the hot Oklahoma sunshine

He forgets the time that we spent

Swimming and running and playing

On the good days he remembers

The stories he heard

As his mother laid him to bed

His best friends and family

On the bad days he forgets

His brothers, his sister, his children

And he sees his son, my father

As a stranger

It hurts to have

The memories that he has lost

But, when he smiles at me

It makes everything worthwhile

It breaks my heart to know

That he doesn't know who he is, where he is, when he is

And one day soon

He will never remember me.
