To the Man I Thought I Loved

To the man I thought I loved,

Hello, it’s me. Who’s me?

I’m the girl who loved you for four years,

Four long years, I loved you dearly.

And for four years you loved me back.

For four years we had our tests,

We had our trials, our battles,

It was you and me against the world.

Many opposed us,

Sure,

Who wouldn’t oppose two young people who were in love?

Or, thought they were in love?

Who would have known,

That after four years,

Four long years,

You and I would have grown apart?

Now, we are as two ships,

Passing each other in the night.

You helped me through the hard times,

You helped me when I was weak,

You made me feel special,

And you made me feel loved.

I thank you for the time we had,

And I’m sorry for the time we didn’t.

But look at us now!

Flying high on our own;

Our own success,

Our own failures,

With new people to help us.

To help us write the next chapter of our story,

To be what we need,

And to be there for us,

Just like you and I were for each other.

Now as I say my last goodbye,

You won’t see me cry.

We cried together that fateful day,

With one last embrace, with unfolded hands,

We took separate paths.

Knowing we would never turn back.

I’m thankful you were mine,

And I was yours.

Somedays I miss you,

And what we had.

But you are happy,

And me?

Well,

I’m doing just fine.

Almost two years ago, I had a falling out with my highschool sweetheart. It was bittersweet, but we both knew it was coming. Now we hare happier, we have our own lives to life, new goals to atchieve, and new people at our sides to help us, just as we were for eachother. Enjoy!
