Making the Change

What's the difference between adding an A.

Taking away the "ER"

Now what is left to say?

We have so many rules as to when to say it

But then we get happy over being called a bad b...

Oh, my bad.. I'm getting too real

I think I'm teaching you how to feel.

How to feel the true feeling of the truth.

I'm standing here... I'm living proof.

Proof that you can't always show your true emotion

Because that might create too much commotion.

Nigger was a word used with slaves,

But, add an "A", take away the "ER" and Nigga is one of our faves.

I know very well I shouldn't take offense..

It just doesn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense that we use it on a daily basis.

We use it depending on the color of our faces.

We use it when we're talking friendship,

We use it when we're trying to fit....

To fit in is to be with the social norm.

But it is not the social norm, because my hair needed a comb.

We claim so much freedom in the USA,

But is it really freedom if we create hell for ourselves everyday?

Fightin', Cussin', Beatin' each other down...

Beating each other when they have already pushed us to the ground...

Coming together won't just benefit us...

It'll benefit the other tired women when Rosa was on that bus.

They didn't fight for us so that we would fight each other.

They fought so that progression would show and  that we could have equality with our sisters and brothers.

Hopefully you've learned something and you should know that life is meant to be tough.

Tough is what we're best at.

Tough is when we just don't want a pat on our backs.

Tough is what I would call myself within.

Tough is what I call our ancestors, our kin..

Let me tell you this. I am NOT any of the names above.

I am. We are. AFRICAN AMERICANS.
