Maggots to Men

Some maggots complain

Unsure of shoulder bumps

That invariably appear

With burdens they cry

“Why am I afflicted?”

While other larvae

Rejoice in knowledge

That others never realize

Shoulder bumps grow

Into future wings

Without which they

Can never escape

Life under the outhouse

They are born to


Author’s note: To many of us predict negative out-comes, setting ourselves up for self-fulfilling/ self-defeating behavior. We must turn every stumbling block in life into a stepping stone.
