Lost and Found
What's that darkness that holds
you still?
can you feel it?
It's so clear
you shiver as if that
nightmare can be so real
That light so bright calls your name
Yet darkness has you
with a strain
your named is shouted
you look confused
Then an angel comes to you
He look at you and tells you why
you feel that pain and start to cry
you cant believe your still alive
the angel takes you up so high
And all thats darkness says goodbye
you feel so happy, so secure
you thank the lord for your soul

I really enjoy the force in this poem. many poems about heavenly ascension have a neutral feel, almost as if heaven is a reward for good deeds done. This poem, however, presents it as an escape from a nightmarish darkness. What intrigued me was the notion of the narrator's name being shouted out--though it isn't said by who: darkness trying to claim a soul, or light encouraging a soul upward? regardless, it retains a strong sense of force and a bit of desperation. I like it.
