Life Through the Years

A boy of young who lies with thy mother Asks to go out and play after supper, A glare and a pat on the behind she gives “not while your mother still breathes and still lives”.   An adolescent who lies on thy cot Slips out of bed when he knows he ought naught, A hush of the wind and a face that won’t forgive  “Not while your mother still breathes and still lives”   A teen boy who lies in a bed Kisses a young maid who he does not plan to wed, A pull of the ear from a mother who is not corroborative “Not while your mother still breathes and still lives”   A young man who lies by thy bed Looks down at his mother who’ll soon be dead, A tear down the cheek and a soft hand the mother gives “Not while your mother still breathes and still lives”   An elderly man who lies by a grave Looks up to the sky and tries to be brave, His son is the same as he and his childhood he relives “Not while your father still breathes and still lives”
