Liberty and Justice (For Sale)

Liberty and Justice (For Sale)

I forgot to buy groceries today.

I was busy shopping for a Labubu.

I was thrilled—I found one!

Meanwhile, I saw a photo:

a healthy five-month-old baby beside herself two months later,

her body hollowed by hunger.

Her mother held her through the slow turning to stone.

I flipped through streaming channels today.

I caught the latest episode of South Park

Who needs education, healthcare, or social services

when there are thousands of shows to binge?

I saw the fat man golfing while the earth burned.

Wasn’t there an emperor who played the fiddle

while Rome turned to ash?

Or maybe that’s fake news.

Do you think the files will be released?

I heard over a hundred women had stories to share.

But one man said they were lying.

He had nothing to hide, no reason to deceive.

He must be telling the truth.

A hundred women? Clearly a witch hunt.

New lines are being drawn.

They say it’s to help people vote the “right” way.

Better safe than sorry, right?

We wouldn’t want people

actually choosing for themselves.

When I was a kid,

I learned about a group of men

who agreed to “Liberty and Justice for All.”

But maybe that was fake news too.
