Letter to America

America, what have you become?

America, where is your welcome?

You seduced mom and dad

You said you were not half bad

Ripped themselves apart for you,

gave up dreams they pursued

You told them to think of me,

their little sweet pea

You said they would only cry for three years

Then tell me America, why am I still wiping tears?

America, you lied.

No, you did not provide.

“it’s too much to bear”

but you whisper quietly in their ear

“think of little sweet pea”
