Leaves

In the spring, the leaves are green

And the flowers bloom while the blue birds sing

The sunlight pours through the branches

And the children hold hands and everyone dances

In the summer, the days get longer

And the sun comes out, making it hotter

The bugs nibble on the leaves for a snack

And the air is filled with the sweet scent of lilac

In the fall, the leaves turn brown

And one by one are swept down to the ground

The rakes are brought out to clean up the mess

And as the leaves go they leave tiredness

In the winter, the tree sways in pain

And its bare branches shiver in the coldest rain

The bark stiffens as the sharp winds sting

And it hugs the thought of new leaves next spring
