It was me.
Location
Two blackened eyes,
Too swelled to see.
A hopeless girl,
Afraid to be.
A broken heart no longer beats,
A lonely soul who can hardly breathe.
A thoughtless mind laid at rest,
Her only truth; she did her best.
A bruised-up face,
With thick blood dried,
Ugly on the surface,
But angelic on the inside.
Cries for help,
Went unheard,
For this young child,
Happiness was not a word.
Then one day, help finally arrived.
Although physically she lived,
On the inside she already died.
She held out hope,
That someday in her life,
Everything would be okay.
And she wouldn’t have to fight.
Every day was a battle, a war that cost a lot,
But in the end the memories faded,
A haunted girl was left,
Fully alive, but jaded.
After years of fighting a battle she never should have met,
She managed to find hope and learned how to forget.
Though she still has much to learn,
Her life now means a lot,
A family took her in
All she wanted was to be loved,
Finally that’s what she got.
Although it’s far from over,
She has managed to move on.
Because someone cared,
That hideous life is gone.
Some ask me how, this story I know,
It’s obvious my friend, let the truth be spoke.
That broken girl afraid to trust, left lifeless in a cruel society,
That little girl…..Once was me.
