It’s sad that my grades steady declining
Momma always whining
Crying
But she not understanding
That all the things she’s demanding
Is making me upset and
I don’t really know
How I’m suppose show
The man in my family
How to be a hero
That shhh.. Don’t go
Or flow
I sit quiet wit my head
Down low
Cause Dexter, Linwood, and the Blvd
Ain’t got nothing for me
What I need is peace
Between my knees my fingers
Need release
While theirs 10 fools on the streets
To hurt
Sup you and disperse you
What you suppose to do
Rhetorical devices
Give me the license
To speak freely
On how you living the accidental
Something mental
That you didn’t ask to be into
Trying not to be the statistic
Running around putting my stick
Where neatly fits it
Where you realize all that mess is a trick
To get you to be an accidental
Sperm donor
Worm holder
Something you once again don’t want control over
(breathe) im sober
But I get tired of having to hold ya
But I’ll always be yo soldier
Mother
And although im devoted
To the game that’s gone get me toted
I wish it was noted
That this ish ain’t easy
Please believe me
But I’ll be your accidental slaved out hero
If it’s gone help me get into
Rutgers, SUNY PURCHAE, Mellon
SMU
That’s why I’m still going
And going going?
So in less than a year I can be 525,000
Miles
Away from you?
Than I’ll be your accidental…………
hero.

A poem about an African American male whose family has placed all their bets into

I can really hear the struggle of the person you've written the poem about as you speak it out loud. My favorite lines are "Rhetorical devices / Give me the license / To speak freely" because it really shows how we can truly speak our mind through the words in our poems. I'm really feeling your poem, and almost your pain in this poem. The line that got to me was "But she not understanding/That all the things she’s demanding/Is making me upset and/I don’t really know/How I’m suppose show/The man in my family/How to be a hero". that's well put and just tells you the daily struggle an African American or a Latino whether male or female goes through because of the lives we were born into and forced to survive in without a choice. It was real dope.
