Friends
A strange notion

Companionship
An uneasy feeling

People, commonality
Seeking something more than scorn

Warm smiles
Fighting disdain

Being me
They want me to be someone else

I smile
They jeer

In the corner not the crowd
They think it weakness

Be like us, they taunt
I’m not and I don’t have to be

I can be more
I don’t have to be what they demean me to be

Their weakness is my strength, I am my own
I am different and I love it

They fear different and I pity them
We are all different

We are all unique
Only some of us have the courage to embrace it

The overwhelming passion, the endless dedication
To books or ideas or collections

Don’t be many
Just one

Accept yourself
The rest will follow
