Images of Black Men
Location
As a black man when you look at me what do you see
Do you see the over-popularized image portrayed on TV
Thugs and dealers drugs and killers
Only waiting for that day when I too, myself will be incarcerated
Tell me what do you see, Is that what you want me to be
Because very much so I’ve seen it all my life
Pushing me into a category as I walk by, looks of fear as if to imply
That I am dangerous because of my skin he’s a threat to us, but look again
Look beyond your media conceptualized image look again
Because I my friend am here for the same reason to educate myself
And give life a reason, Beyond the shadow of a doubt all men are created equal
But is this the sequel, where the mind is the judge the jury and the prosecutioner
Already incriminating me subconsciously before I’ve even had a chance to say hello
Because I don’t wear the same attire and talk as if life had no struggle oh
If it were that easy
See the color of my skin has taught me that I am an athlete first
And society has taught me that a woman is no more than a friend with benefits
Poison to the young black men that are so eager to ingest it
Because they know no better, poison that is the biggest mass murderer
Creating genocide in the cities that we reside, never to be conceptualized
By the minds of the blind, but what’s the remedy for poison when its already ingested
It seems that our infrastructure is so heavily infested
Speak out for a positive cause but quickly get muzzled
By what is considered cool and popular, not realizing that cool and popular
Is what got you into the predicament you were in
But where are the real teachers not submersed in academia, but in the reality of life
And ive come to learn that experience Is the best teacher
So I am here to learn
