I'm Only Me and that's All I Can Be
Location
I’m not a poet
And my entire English class knows it.
I don’t have the best rhyming skills
Or any strong words that kill.
My poems don’t have underlying meanings
And they don’t convince any superficial feelings.
But I always give it my best.
Now I’ll let the real poets do the rest.
I’m not a jock
And the athletes know it.
I don’t have the endurance and agility
To run miles on end diligently.
My reflexes aren’t up to par
And I’m always scared about getting battle scars.
But I always give it my best.
Now I’ll let the real athletes do the rest.
I’m not popular
And the social status knows it.
I am not stick thin
Nor do I have the prettiest grin.
My list of friends is not indefinite,
And my lunch table makes it evident.
But I always give it my best.
Now I’ll let the real "populars" do the rest.
I’m not a genius
And my grade reports show it.
I don’t always make straight A’s
And I don’t always write perfect essays.
My knowledge of history is not one-hundred percent
And my science skills are only decent.
But I always give it my best.
Now I’ll let the real geniuses do the rest.
I’m only me
And that’s the only person I want to be.
My poetry skills can get me by
And my athletic ability is not dry.
My social status does not disappoint me
And my smarts are still a guarantee.
I’m only me,
And that’s all I can be.
