The Ideal Child

 Dear Mother Society,

The ideal child,

I did as I was told.

“Close your eyes”

This world is innocent,

if seen by the eyes of the blind.

The ideal child,

I did as I was told.

“Seal your lips”

Opposition is unattractive,

Such a women can never be sold.

The ideal child,

I did as I was told.

“Keep your hands high”

We are like animals,

it is our instinct to kill when “threatened”.

The ideal child,

I did as I was told.

“Hold your tears”

There is no room for weakness,

this is simply the survival of the fittest.

The ideal child,

I tried my best to please you,

but…

My ears heard turmoil,

and my eyes slowly opened.

I witnessed true pain,

and my lips screamed for help.

My voice was ignored,

and my peaceful hands transformed into fists.

My spirit was broken,

and my tears shot down on this paper.

The woke child,

I chose to use poetry as my medium,

for words are more painful than fists.

Sincerely,

America’s “Problem” Child
