I’d like to say that I write for a Noble Cause- that I write authority into powerful laws

to rescue the damsel in distress/ to break the chains of their duress

And maybe one day that’ll be true

But right now it’s all so new, You see

I’m just beginning to learn how words fit together- how each stroke of my pen gives life to another

thought, please remember how it felt to fall behind

when Spanish 3 might as well have been Spanish 9

I might not understand and I may not be the best

But I love the way it feels to shut my brain off and let the ink do the rest

It’s amazing, isn’t it?

The things the mind can do when its limits are pushed?

So I write to find truth and I write to convince

I write to the joker and I write to the prince.

I write to preserve and I write to remember

the way my bones chill at the thought of November.

I write when I’m angry or ridden with joy

Or confused and dismayed like Helen of Troy.

I write to get better

Improving I am
