I would like to change
When I was young
Momma told me to study hard
I come from a world where many don’t go to school
The way they act,
The way they think,
And the way they treat things
Are careless.
I never knew so.
When I am older,
Momma tells me to be educated
‘Isn’t being educated and studying the same?’
She never answers.
Into the real world,
The dark side of the moon shown:
I painfully look at these poor families
Get robbed
While these young thieves buy drugs and get high
The people cry as if they have nothing left
I beg for where morality has gone
Has it been as cheap before?
No one answers.
I walk down the street,
An old lady is slowly approaching the other side.
A bus crashes on her when it’s supposed to stop.
Under the law, no one obeys.
Under God, no one respects.
I ask where the laws have gone
Going, the bus continues to go.
I recognize
These people all go to school
They all do Geometry
They all learn the same Literature Books
What is the difference between us?
They are scholars,
But no educated man.
There moral values are sold for devils
As cheap as a dime, or less.
The world exists somehow with evilness.
Until now, I may not know how.
I would like to change,
I want to change education
I would like to change,
I want to change their attitudes
I would like to change,
I want to change their minds
I would like to change,
I want to change their thoughts
I would like to change,
I want to change their actions.
Momma says it’s never too late to learn
Momma says it’s never too late to come back
I want this to stop
I may not wish for an intelligent world
I must wish for a moral world.
How would I change this world?
I may lessen an hour of Geometry
I can even lessen half an hour of Trigonometry
I, instead, read a book about morality.
I, instead, look around.
And I, instead, spread education.
