I Understand Me

They tell me who I am,

What I should be like,

What I will do.

They don’t understand.

I try to tell them no,

But they don’t listen,

And say they know best.

They won’t understand.

They are their own person,

With their own preferences,

And their own dreams.

They can’t understand.

I have my own ambitions,

My own feeling,

My own style.

I understand.

I want to live my own life,

One where I can be me,

And not be told who to be.

I wish they could see,

That I am the one,

Who understands me.
