I Understand

I Understand

        I understand now.

There was no specific day when my childhood flew away, but I understand now.

I understand that I will fight every day to show that being gay is not a disease, simply a way of being.

I understand that racism is more than shoving people away, it is looking at them like objects.

       I understand now.

I understand that I will never have a fairy-princess life, that I don’t have someone waiting for me.

I understand that as a woman, there will always be some men that only care about my body, and never my mind.

        I understand now.
