I Promise I'm Not Broken

I promise I’m not broken,

I just look this way

Because of the pieces I gave away

To fix the broken in someone else

But when something is no longer broken

They no longer need the one who fixes

They no longer need me

Or want me

I am the healer of hearts

He who sutures souls

The mechanic of melancholy minds

But I have nothing left to give

Perhaps I am broken

Or a cabbage patch of scar tissue

Or a collection of all the words unspoken

But I am still human

I still have this beating heart

These saltwater tears

And this innate instinct to fight

To keep going

To do whatever it takes to survive

Even if I don’t want to
