I am a Woman

I’m not good enough to be paid the same amount as a man,

Not good enough to be considered the same.

To be treated the same.

That’s what my gender says.

I may be smart and hard working, but not enough to be equal.

So close, but not close enough.

So close, I can taste it.

I can see it.

And if I worked a little bit harder,

Maybe I’d be

The

One

Winning

Academic

Awards.

And maybe,

If I did more at a job,

Work just a little harder than my male counter part,

I’d have

Equal

Pay.

And maybe,

If I didn’t wear dresses,

Maybe,

If I wasn’t a girl,

I wouldn’t have been

Sexually

Harassed,

Unwanted hands

Down My

Shirt.

Maybe,

If I wasn’t me,

I’d be

Equal.

Perfect.

Flawless.

But I can’t change me.

I can’t be anything other than a woman.

I am a woman.

It’s not possible to be anything but a woman.

And so role models,

Like Emma Watson can change the world,

For the people like me,

For

Women.

Because people like Emma Watson care.

Care about education.

Care about other women.

Care about equality,

And say

It is not a crime to be a woman.

Women like Emma Watson

Who say women deserve education.

Who say women deserve pay equal to men’s.

Who says that women can’t be abused.

Who say that women’s rights

Is a male issue

Too.

Who says women should not be ashamed to be a woman.

I am flawless

Because I am a woman.

I am flawless

Because I have always been

One-upped by males

Told I’m not enough by males

Harassed by males

And I that didn't stop me.

I still go to school

Still learn

Still work

Still wear dresses.

I am flawless

Because I am a woman,

And I am strong,

And I am not afraid

Or ashamed

To be a woman.
