I am Nothing

Oh, what thanks I have to give

To the expressions on our faces

Or the tender warmth I feel

With each of our embraces.

Each feeling that blossoms

Within my young but trying heart

Makes it difficult to keep myself at distance

It makes it hard to stay apart.

I do not believe that I could go on

Without the ability to feel

I could not see the world the same

It simply wouldn't be as real.

The fun of straying from the troddened path,

And down my own new adventure

The wonder of feeling something I hadn't before

           And breaking off pattern

              To feel and express

                 All that's inside

Exploring in places where I like to hide

And the darkness of my mind

    That no one understands.

Without this,

Surely

I'd be Nothing.

Me
