I Am Not Shy

I was sitting
In my classroom
The first day of kindergarten
Waiting, worrying
The teacher asked a question
And that was when my habit started
Never raising my hand till someone else did
I don't know why
But that's when I got labeled the title "Shy"
I nervously picked, plucked, panicked
Be careful, she's a little bit shy
Watch out, she's the shy one
I can't speak in front of people, I'm shy
I can't go to the dance, I'm shy
I can't possibly have a boy like me, I'm shy
Who am I? Well I'm shy
Then it was, wow she's pretty
Boys watch out
She's pretty
Don't mess with your hair,
You're pretty
I wish I could be as thin as you, it's pretty
A twig, I'm pretty
You're such a twig
So itty bitty
So small and fragile
Like a doll
I feel your ribs I see your hips
I could snap your legs
So thin, a twig
And pretty young thing
You have bright eyes
Blonde hair
Long limbs,
Cute nose
Knobby knees, chubby cheeks
You look like a dancer
You look like a rock star
You look like a goof
You look like you have scars
You look upset
You look beautiful
You are smart
You are awkward
You are weird
You are quiet
You are mine
You are short
Fragile, timid, small, feeling nothing at all
Lean, narrow, starved, pinched
Lovely, fair, pudgy,
You
Are
Shy
Forget the labels
For once in our lives
Because God doesn't label
Why should I?
I am not pretty
I am not shy
I simply am Gods creation
Apart of a generation
That needs labels to feel
Organized
So who am I?
I am Gods daughter
I am His child His love His believer
I wasn't built to fit a social standard
Nor thrown into the system to be publicly slandered
I can't be defined by a single word
Based on my outer appearance
Or character traits
If God only cared about pretty faces
We'd all look the same
I'm not trying to get angry
Or push people down
But I could honestly care less about weighing so little pounds
I'm trying to find my way in God's light
So sorry if my hair isn't looking just right
Our purpose isn't to sum up someone's existence
As if calling them shy, for instance
Will give more meaning to their lives
As they constantly hold back based off that fact
God wants us to be released
Of evil things
If you open that to interpretation
This has a ring
I am not shy
