I Am Not Afraid of a Mirror

Sun, 10/06/2019 - 20:36 -- Rosalie

I am not afraid

Of a mirror

And its backward ways

I am backwards

Myself

So we are alike

I see it in the corner

Of my eye

And turn on the light

But I am not afraid

Of a mirror

I hear a voice and feel

A breath on my neck

The candle goes out

But the light is still on

So I am not afraid of a mirror

The comfort of electricity spurs me

To prove them all wrong

So I spin underneath fluorescents

With the door wide open

And speak the name

One,

Two,

Three,

times, because

I am not afraid of a mirror

But the lights go out

And I see something is behind me

And when I look it is not there

So I leave before the door closes too

Like I know it is wont to do

And I resolve never to say

I spoke the name

That way

So nobody knows

I’m afraid of a mirror

Except, I think

She will know

Won’t she?
