I Am From

I am from the adrenalin,

sweat falling down my face.

Where practice is everyday,

and weather doesn't matter

I am from hard work,

pushing yourself over the limit.

Never backing down,

and always giving it your best.

I am from the sound of shoes on the pavement,

the slow pull of the trigger.

The cold, gripping breeze in your hair,

that still feels like heaven.

I am from the sand in your eyes,

and the last jump off the line.

The dance before you run,

and the leap to prove your skills.

I am from days of practice,

for 13 seconds of fame.

From not being good enough,

to a personal record.

I am from shin splints,

back pains and knee trouble.

Where ice baths and icy hot,

are your best friends.

I am from the power inside to press on,

from the greatness and inner strength.

I am from the final lap and stretch,

I am from the track and field
