I baked an apple pie today,
Just for him. It patiently waits on the counter'
And maybe he'll see it on Sunday,

Since Sunday is his free day,
But his calendar says I have to bake another day.
I baked an apple pie today

For three, but it seems like he can't get away
From his unrelenting work. The pie gets covered
And maybe he'll see it on Sunday,

Hopefully, but not realistically. He calls to say
Another week or two (and maybe another).
I baked an apple pie today,

But this pie starts to decay:
It browns, it stinks, it crumbles in its interior.
And maybe he'll see that on Sunday,

But most likely won't. Even if I wanted him to stay,
Cause this pie won't stay fresh forever.
I baked an apple pie today
And maybe he'll see it- someday.
