Up Here
The stars, they cast the only light.
Our muscles burn like dynamite.
We do our best to hide our fright.
Exhaustion is a plague of mine;
I hoped that it would pass with time.
I looked around for every sign
But to which end I did not know,
And all my work has come to show
That we now have nowhere to go.
“Don’t give up and have no fear
When all your friends will still be here!
The end, I’m sure, is drawing near,
And you are strong for getting here!”
His words draw tears and motivate.
He showed me that it’s not too late
To come back new and change the fate
And so I push through all the pain.
Twelve thousand feet we have obtained!
My breath is caught by the great view.
Up here we feel as good as new.
Without my squad, what would I do?
Up here I’ve been taught to strive
