Gold Dust (Never Forget)

As I collect the jagged edges from the floor

And paint over the cracks til you can't see my core

You tell me you can't afford to lose what's at stake

But I can't take the shivers and the shakes

Tonight we caused something inside of me to break

When yet again we failed to stop after goodbye

You told me you can't afford to lose what's at stake

But I can't afford not to try

So I try and I try and I press and I push you away - want you to stay

Depends which way that you look

But I try and I push and I push and I press

All that I really want to do is to forget

There was that time you left your heart outside my door

In an empty plastic case out back

My mother said "he shouldn't come around no more"

So I snuck out to see you, dressed in black

But I try and I try and I press and I push you away - want you to stay

Depends which way that you look

But I try and I push and I push and I press

All that I really want to do is to forget

I left your great escape with gold dust on my skin

I lay in wait outside your gate, please, let me in

I got away from your great escape, but your gold dust hurts my skin

So I beg you again and again, oh please let me back in

Still I try and I try and I press and I push

Just can't believe how easily your gold dust took

But I try and I push and I push and I press

I must confess that it’s better that I never forget
