GEN Z BABY

“Our generation, is the best generation”

Says every generation to generation

till generation is just the word to explain

the time my generation was born till the day it will die.

Of touch screen phones,

and conservatives moans,

our legislation made by wrinkly old crones,

We believe our lives should be more important than NRA loans.

I hate to say in such a way,

but not long ago my brothers and sisters were shot away,

but yeah- we’re kids, and life’s not gonna treat us great.

My president wants to build a wall,

which many don’t believe is the greatest call,

but he says, “rapists and murderers”

while Brett Kavanaugh sits in his supreme court seat big and tall.

Since day one of our lives,

doom has filled our parents archives,

9/11 terror attack, 2009 stock crash, as college prices rise,

our futures is all we are allowed to strive.

Me Too

Becomes a phrase all know too well,

Me too

Fighting for a body which old white men see as a baby growing shell.

“Why didn’t you say anything earlier?”

Why didn’t you tell him that taking advantage of girls is a bad thing?

That my body is my body,

whether I’m drunk, sober, or shedding my clothes away.

Our horror movies can’t compare to the horror of our world,

We watch it burn,

and only a couple can live to see the sequel.

LIttle kids in cages,

they forget their parents faces,

screaming for a home,

they no longer understand or know.

But our minds our sharp,

our phones in hand,

we can tweet you out of office,

as easily as someone can vote you in.

We have hope for the world,

since birth we have not been hidden to the harshness that has unfurled,

still we fight,

harder than any soldier with a gun could plan.

We fight for love,

so if I want to kiss a girl,

I can kiss a girl,

and bake ourselves a wedding cake when christians won’t.

Just Do It becomes a meme,

our childhood a dream,

we cry at what we have seen,

and we finally understand that politicians never say what they actually mean.

Freedom of Speech is our joke,

with which we legalize nazis burning crosses in my black neighbors yard,

And by doing nothing about it,

we have become accomplices in part.

Boys shot for cell phones in their hands,

“I thought it was a gun!”

No,

you thought he was a thug,

and that you could get off free and run.

I care too much,

then I care too little,

it all makes me feel caught in the middle.

“Why don’t you go outside anymore?”

Because the air is choking me,

What do you need all that oil for?

It’s killing us can’t you see?

Your fossil fule’s have poisoned my air,

Flint Michigan’s water is no longer clear,

soon polar bears will go from endangered to extinct,

but yeah- Global Warming is not a real thing to fear.

Break our world,

but not our will,

we will build,

where others would kill.
