Frugally Flawless

Sun, 12/14/2014 - 00:54 -- mjg795

I walk in and wrinkle my nose.

Ah yes, what a familiar scent.

Sterile like a dentist office,

Inviting like a grandmother’s living room.

Relics fill the space.

What those of my age would see as trash,

I see as treasure.

It’s overwhelming to say the least.

But I’m used to it,

Years of practice has created a pro.

I start to rummage through the 80’s shoulder pads,

Inspired by Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.

I’m on full alert.

Hands sliding aside mom jeans,

Eyes honing in on pieces that the Pinterest board in my brain sees fit.

I start to rub my nose.

The dirt starts to get to me,

But I know it’s just predisposition.

I convince myself to continue to rummage.

In my head I hear a chorus of

No                                           No                                           No                                                       No                                           No                                                                                                                    No                                           Yes.

I grab the hanger.

Looking in the mirror,

I know I have done what I have accomplished.

Here at Goodwill,

I found the newest addition to my wardrobe.

And. It’s. Flawless.

All for under five dollars,

I have found the perfect ugly Christmas sweater.
