The Friendship Plague

I think I have the friendship plague;

It doesn't have a cure.

The think about the friendship plague-

It's like a bolted door.

Like most plagues, it's unrelentlessly cruel,

And filled with hate and strife.

Within it, you cannot break a rule:

Simply be locked away for life.

It's a curse that's not always easy to see,

Though it affects the common folk.

We've been exposed, both you and me.

Those infected would call it "awoke."

Maybe I just hold on too tight

And chase away their love.

But if I hold too loose they might

Assume I think myself above.

I know not what I did to aquire

This plague all about leaving.

I just most earnestly desire

To keep friends, not grieving.

I think I got it;

I'm fairly sure.

No, I have it.

Now where's the cure?
