I walk out on the field to become one with this ball

My thoughts I drown out as I am surrounded by awh

Concentration in my mind as the steps I walk

As I pursue this game of football and the dream that I stalk

I have practiced this punting form a 1000 times before

But, I wonder how I will perform this one time more

Am I chasing a dream of reality or desires of my heart

I believe I have the talent of a varsity punter to start

All I’ve learned is processed in 2 seconds of time

Now it’s muscle memory and confidence in my mind

I feel my body go thru the motions of years I’ve learned

Now is the time of rewards, that I now deserve

I see with my eyes as my arms reach out to receive the ball

My body must perform like a song played in a symphony hall

My right leg punts the football like a missile from the launch pad

When I see the football spiral in flight, know that my heart will be glad

To punt a football takes much desire, and 1000’s of tries

But in that moment, the football punted by my foot brings gasps and sigh’s

As my foot returns back to earth it feels like a dream,

For in that moment, I am a college punter of a football team
