Floating Debris

You think you’ve moved on
Like a bird taken flight
But I think of you more
Like a piece of debris
Broken and floating further and further away
Soon I won’t even be able to pull you back
You tell everyone that you’re okay
And you convinced your mind too
But your heart won’t listen
It won’t let you breathe
Without feeling a twinge
So you drink
Knowing the warmness from the liquor
Leaves you only more colder
Turning your hair blue with numbness
So you go to sleep drunk
Hoping the sheets will strangle you
But your eye lids still flutter apart each morning
And I wonder how the world looks through them
Does the light burn
Worse than the alcohol running down your throat?
