A Flickering Flame

Location

Southern Illinois University
United States

The weights I've chosen to shoulder

I bear not for my own intrinsic desires.

Regardless, I take another step forward

Relentless, Unwavering.

In constant search of amelioration.

Who am I to relent?

As this weight upon me grows heavier and heavier.

My inner strength is fading.

The burden ever increasing.

My Inner flame is flickering.

I crave sanctum

But I do not take repose from my struggles.

If I fail, the fire in my heart will smolder

And in a thin wisp of smoke,

Only a pile of ash will remain.

A charred memory of the man I used to be
