A Few Adjustments

The new girl wore sherbert pink capris and

a matching polo shirt (despite hating girly things).

The desks were arranged into a U in the 5th grade class.

Strange plants in tiny pots lined the windowsill.

It should have stayed nice like it was on the first day.

The night blooming cactuses never did anything

and the new kid quickly became miserable.

The class went to a different teacher for math

and new kid learned what anxiety felt like.

Half days were nice

because she just took her sack lunch home.

The meal was noramlly served in the class,

which was weird.

This whole school was odd,

and the new kid?

They thought she was the weirdest!
